True to form, he talks about the image, images, his images and what he believes in.
An image, for Joel-Peter Witkin, is a complex mental construction, a kind of materialized plane of consistency. Each image is carried by a « story », the story of the encounters necessary for its making, the anecdotes that have enamelled its realization, but it is also, as such, an operator of mental and spiritual transformation. This is the belief that underlies Joel-Peter Witkin’s entire body of work and about which he is speaking to us today.
